Perceived Gendered Racial Microaggressions among Black American Women in Educational Leadership
Frazier, Vanessa Diane
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Lincoln Memorial University
Gendered racial microaggressions, experienced at the intersections of one's race and gender, can make recipients prone to health risks. This research explored the frequency and levels of stress associated with microaggressions and determined if a relationship existed between frequencies of microaggression, levels of stress, and years of experience in K-12 building-level or institution-wide administrative roles among Black women. Purposive and snowball sampling were used to select Black American women in administrative roles in K-12 education in metropolitan areas in Georgia; a total of 82 Black women completed the Gendered Racial Microaggressions Scale-Black Women. A statistically significant correlation between the total frequency score and the total appraisal score was found for the Pearson correlation (r [80] =0.88. p<0.001). The primary objective of this study was to provide Black women in administrative roles with knowledge about gendered racial microaggressions in an educational environment. The findings in this study were consistent with previous studies. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
