Policy and Practice: The Teacher Professional Assessment and Its Implications in Teacher Education Faculty
Saseyi, Benjamin O.
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, California State University, Los Angeles
In the last two decades, education has come under scrutiny. In response, the edTPA was designed as a panacea for a successful cure for teachers' lack of effectiveness. A teaching preparation program, or teaching, is a historically situated social practice encompassing belief structure, attitudes, and actions (Cochran-Smith et al., 2016). Inversely, teachers' and educators' efforts depend on institutional context and social, political, cultural, economic, and political nuances (Darling-Hammond et al., 2009). The proponent of teachers' performance assessments argue performance assessments are evidenced-based and accurate, hence a valid measure preparing and an effective form of measurement for preservice teachers' readiness to teach (Darling- Hammond, 2010). However, some teacher educators seemed to think differently; a danger of factors are associated with high-stakes measurements that limit the curriculum (Kornfeld et al., 2007) and overwhelm preservice teachers and their ability to learn, develop, and teach effectively (Meuwissen & Choppin, 2015).
