The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) ensures educational equity for multilingual learners through supporting school districts and charter schools to develop, implement and evaluate research-based language instruction education programs so that multilingual learners, including students with English learner status, attain academic language proficiency and achieve state academic content standards. This report contains information regarding English learner demographics and achievement. In addition to including statutory and regulatory references pertaining to English learners, it also reports on available funding. It describes the Minnesota Department of Education's (MDE) support of local education agencies (LEAs) in implementing effective language instruction educational programs to ensure ELs are able to reach their academic potential.
