The Experience of Catholic School K-8 Teachers Using an Alternative Approach to Discipline
Ismerio, Laura
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Creighton University
One of the more important aspects involved in teaching is how teachers develop classroom management and discipline practices. Many teachers rely on practices that may be counterproductive to their goal of creating an effective learning environment. Teachers may choose discipline practices that can be aggressive or exclusionary causing students to have a negative view towards school and schoolwork. Teachers who use an alternative approach to discipline that can focuses on building relationships and fair practices may be more effective in creating a positive learning environment. Teachers in K-8 Catholic schools are particularly predisposed to implement an alternative approach to discipline because of the values that are inherent to Catholic schools.
