Lessons Learned from an Approach to Implementing a Self-Guided Program in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for First-Year College Students
Coverdale, Miranda L.
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Wilmington University (Delaware)
An increasing number of college students are reporting feelings of depression and anxiety but are unwilling or unable to seek treatment. A large body of evidence supports the use of acceptance and commitment therapy to reduce the symptoms of depression and anxiety among college students. This study focused on an acceptance and commitment therapy intervention specifically designed for first-year college students at Wilmington University. Participation was voluntary and 362 students were invited to participate. Although no one completed the program, several limitations and recommendations for future research were identified.
