A Comprehensive View of Undergraduate-Class-Scheduling: Practice, Policy, Data Use and Technology

Research from Complete College America has shown that the majority of students don't take enough credits to complete their degree on-time. While there are many factors that contribute to this, a student's ability to access the courses they need, when they need them plays a critical role in this discussion. Similarly, research has found that 65% of non-completers that plan to go back to college reported that flexible scheduling and a schedule that fit their lifestyle would make them more interested in attending. This report focuses on factors considered when building the class schedule, characteristics of student-centric schedules, when classes are scheduled, and how data is used to inform the class schedule. All of these factors are critical to understanding how the class schedule does or does not serve students.
