Hauf, Lori Kay
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Northcentral University
The landscape of teaching and learning has shifted in the last decade by the advent of web technologies, which enabled the emergence of Web 2.0 technologies. The advancement in Web 2.0 technologies has resulted in the creation of new web-based learning tools used in the modern classroom. This study reported the findings regarding how the Net Generation perceived Web 2.0 technologies in both online and on-ground deliveries. In this study, six online and six on-ground students enrolled in an Introduction to Computers course were interviewed to gain a better understanding of the participants' knowledge, use, and comfort level when using Web 2.0 technologies. The analyzed data revealed that Net Generation students have positive perceptions when using Web 2.0 technologies in classroom instruction; they felt it helped them learn better and offered a new way to learn the material. This study explored the concept of Web 2.0 technologies and the implications of teaching Web 2.0 in higher education in terms of challenges, opportunities, and student perceptions for this educational modality. It is recommended that instructors implement Web 2.0 technologies to teach the Net Generation in both online and on-ground deliveries.
