The Danish Response to Youth Guarantee
Rasmussen, Palle; Juul, Tilde Mette
Palgrave Studies in Adult Education and Lifelong Learning
This chapter traces the influence of the EU Youth Guarantee (YG) in Denmark and discusses how Danish education and labour market policy relates to the Youth Guarantee principles. The political context is that Denmark is a parliamentary democracy and a welfare state of the social-democratic type. The Youth Guarantee has had limited direct influence, not least because the level of youth unemployment is comparatively low and Denmark is not eligible for special Youth Guarantee funds. Still, current Danish labour market policy is in line with the Youth Guarantee in emphasizing activation and education of unemployed people. Youth projects based on funding from the European Social Fund contribute to implementing the EU policy in Denmark. Results from a study of two such projects are presented.
