The current project aims at providing evidence-based implications for successful use of mobile technologies for teaching and learning. A systematic review of quantitative and qualitative research studies investigating the impact of tablet use on students' achievement has been undertaken. A targeted search and rigorous review of published research (2010-2016) resulted in 94 independent effect-sizes from 79 quantitative studies that were meta-analyzed. Moreover, 55 qualitative research studies were reviewed and summarized. Analysis revealed significant low-to-moderate average effect-sizes of tablet use in comparison with no-tablet contexts. In addition, pedagogically supported tablet-enhanced instruction resulted in even stronger effect-sizes. The qualitative studies reflected students' overall positive perceptions of tablet use in educational contexts which seem to be stronger within more student-active contexts.
