AERA Online Paper Repository, Paper presented at the Annual Meeting of the American Educational Research Association (San Antonio, TX, Apr 27-May 1, 2017)
Ensuring equal access to digital learning skills for all students is a timely goal. This paper describes results of a quasi-experiment study to test the effectiveness of an online professional development (PD) model to prepare teachers to implement web-based Strategies for Online Academic Research (SOAR) with middle school students, including students with learning disabilities (SWLDs). These strategies support students in efficiently and effectively searching for, finding, evaluating, reading, and using appropriate and relevant information when reading and researching online. Analysis is currently underway for full results (expected at time of publication, including outcomes related to SWLD subgroup). Preliminary results indicate that the online PD effectively prepared teachers to implement the Student Toolkit and strategies with their students.
