Thurston, Allen; Dunne, Laura; Kee, Frank; Gildea, Aideen; Lazenbatt, Anne; Craig, Nicole
AERA Online Paper Repository, Paper presented at the Annual Meeting of the American Educational Research Association (San Antonio, TX, Apr 27-May 1, 2017)
The paper reports findings from an efficacy randomised controlled study of a smoking prevention programme designed for use in High Schools. Data is reported from 399, students with a mean age of 12.5 years. The smoking prevention programmes used cooperative learning as a pedagogical tool within which to frame work. Findings indicated that students who received the programme had significantly lower exhaled carbon monoxide in their breath compared to control students. Findings implications are discussed.
