The purpose of this study is to present results from a multiple-case study on factors leading to successful analytic technology implementation within higher education. This study focuses on factors and characteristics leading to successful analytic implementation at the institutional level and does not discuss specific analytic tools. In the past decade, the higher education landscape has widely shifted to welcome analytic technology as a key resource to impact student success. Analytic and predictive technologies are sought as a potential strategy to improve academic learning and student engagement. Institutional leadership strive to use 'big data' to analyze and measure the overall effectiveness of student intervention models. Analytic adoption and investment stakes are high. Departments or institutions may experience successes or failures after analytic technology is acquired. Colleges and universities are challenged to sustain analytic adoption at the institutional level. Successful technology innovations impact students' experiences in the classroom, engagement with the institution, and personal development. The insights of 12 higher educational professionals from two nationally recognized institutions were explored through semi-structured interviews.
