Behavior Prevention and Intervention Implementation in an Elementary School Setting Displaying High Office Referral Rates
Samayoa, Jessica
ProQuest LLC, EDD/CI Dissertation, University of Phoenix
The purpose of the study was to determine how teachers are implementing behavior prevention and intervention. The general problem in this qualitative case study was the high office referral rates due to discipline. The research collection was conducted in an elementary school setting within the Los Angeles Unified School District. A total of seven participants were interviewed and scheduled for classroom instruction observation. The results of the study indicated that there is an absence of behavior prevention and intervention curriculum at the elementary school site in South Los Angeles. The evidence was analyzed by identifying the absence or presence of behavior curriculum and professional development. Consistency of implementation in this study was affected by the lack of supports and absence of behavior prevention and intervention curriculum. In conclusion, participants created behavior systems in their classrooms based on the needs of each group. The implication made was that in order to address negative behaviors in the classrooms, teachers had to adapt to the lack of opportunities to learn about behavior prevention and intervention curriculum.
