Exploratory Analysis of the Guyana National Grade 6 Assessment Using Multicategory Logit Models
Archer, Lester A. C.
AERA Online Paper Repository, Paper presented at the Annual Meeting of the American Educational Research Association (San Antonio, TX, Apr 27-May 1, 2017)
The purpose of this study was to use multicategory logit models to test differences between public and private school students. Data from the published results of the Ministry of Education, Guyana for the 2016 National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) was used to analyze Public, Private Religious, and Public Secular school performance. For every unit increase in score, the log odds increases for a student who attends a Private Religious or Public Secular school rather than a Public school. The predicted models suggested that students in Private Secular schools were evenly represented at the mean and up to at least two standard deviations above the mean, while students who attended public schools clustered at the lower scores.
