The Effects of Video Self Modeling to Increase Social (Peer) Interaction among Saudi Children with Autism
Baras, Faizah Ali
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, Howard University
The prevalence of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in children has increased dramatically during the last decade. Deficits in social communication and interaction have been identified as recognized impairments for individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). In response to these issues, new behavioral interventions have been developed as evidence-based practices for children and youth with autism, including video-self modeling (VSM). This unique use of video allows a child to view himself or herself successfully performing the targeted skills. This study uses a multiple baseline design across participants to investigate whether VSM increases the amount of positive verbal or motor social interaction between children with autism and their typically developing peers in Saudi Arabia. Teachers' perceptions of the social validity and effectiveness of the VSM intervention with children with ASD will be investigated as well.
