Revised "Library Media Standards" Adopted by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards
Neuman, Delia
Educational Media and Technology Yearbook
Ten years after the publication of its first edition of "Library Media Standards," the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) embarked on the preparation of its second edition. During the 2009-2010 academic year, a Development Committee selected by NPBTS from nominees from across the nation worked with NBPTS staff to review and revise the original "Standards" document to reflect current theory and practice in the library media field. This chapter provides background information on NBPTS, presents the newly revised standards statements, and outlines the major changes between the first and second "Standards" editions. The chapter then summarizes the development, approval, and assessment processes used by NBPTS to create the document that will be used over the next 10 years by school librarians and media specialists seeking National Board Certification.
