This study examined the relationship between authentic leadership and teacher burnout. 600 teachers from the Rio Grande City Consolidated Independent School District in South Texas were invited to participate in the study. Teachers completed a survey that included the Authentic Leadership Questionnaire Version 1.0 Rater (ALQ), (Avolio, Gardner, and Walumbwa, 2007) Maslach Burnout Inventory -- Educator Survey (MBI - ES), (Maslach, Jackson and Schwab, 1987) and a demographic questionnaire. The demographic questionnaire consisted of basic questions on age, gender, tenure, education and grade level taught. The Authentic Leadership Questionnaire by Avolio, Gardner, and Walumbwa, 2007 is comprised of 16 questions divided into four scales designated as Self-Awareness, Transparency, Balanced Processing and Ethical/Moral Perspective. This 16-item rater instrument was used to rate the principal in a 5-point Likert Scale modality where the teachers rated their principal's frequency in practicing the authentic leadership behaviors. The Maslach Burnout Inventory -- Educator Survey by Maslach, Jackson & Schwab, 1987 is a 22-item self-rated Likert Scale that affords scores between 21 and 84 to determine the burnout magnitude of the teacher. MBI-ES is divided into three subscales: Emotional Exhaustion, Depersonalization, and Personal Accomplishment. Regression analysis was executed to determine if a relationship existed between the independent and dependent variables while controlling for gender, age, tenure, education and grade level taught. Research design and statistical analysis employed utilized descriptive statistics such as Pearson Product -- Moment Correlations, and Multiple Regression Blocks. Significant findings on continuous and categorical values were identified and T-test was done on dichotomous variables.
