AERA Online Paper Repository, Paper presented at the Annual Meeting of the American Educational Research Association (Washington, DC, Apr 8-12, 2016)
This study designed three scenarios to investigate school staff's handling strategies of cyberbullying. A total of 507 school staffs volunteered to participate in this study. The results show that the most two handling strategies were approaching and talking to the bully and asking other experts. In the case of public humiliation, one third of the school staffs would choose to ignore this situation; when similar situation happens in secret malicious group in cyberspace, only 0.8% of them would still ignore it. This scenario-based investigation have offered new perspective on how school staffs' would actually handle cyberbullying. Further investigations are needed to examine the school staff' conceptual definition of bullying behavior to ensure they could provide timely response and effective intervention.
