Student Perceptions of Instructional Practices and Classroom Experiences as Relevant and Meaningful to Learning in Management and Marketing Classes
Goldberg, Daniel E.
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Delaware Valley University
The study investigates the perceived relevance to the real world of work and the impact on personal learning of the pedagogical methods used to instruct undergraduate college management and marketing students. These practices and experiences can then be linked to professors of theory and professors of practice who instruct these courses. Throughout the analysis of the survey it has become apparent that an overwhelming number of students crave professors who promote critical thinking skills, demonstrate their personal knowledge in the classroom, incorporate personal and work-related experiences and stories into their course content, cultivate class discussions that include questions and answers among students and teachers, give their students opportunities to practice application of knowledge and skills needed for work, and encourage activities that provide opportunities to connect theory, research, practice, and the students own opinions and ideas. Creating an atmosphere where those attributes exist in the classroom can increase student motivation and help to advance learning.
