Exploring the Outcomes of a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership Program

This participatory action research study explored professional and personal outcomes related to graduates of the Doctor of Education Program at Northern Kentucky University. These outcomes were cross-referenced with the six Guiding Principles from the Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate (CPED). This study sought to answer three research questions. 1) What impact did completion of the Ed.D. program have on the graduates' knowledge, skills, and dispositions? 2) What impact did completion of the Ed.D. program have on graduates personally and professionally? 3) Do the program outcomes align with the six CPED Guiding Principles? Using a grounded theoretical approach, guided by Huey T. Chen's Theory driven evaluation, a mixed methods design was used to conduct an online survey for graduates of the NKU Ed.D. program. The study found that completion of the Ed.D. program has had many impacts on graduates. These vary from career trajectory to being a better leader.
