Iacovella, Anna
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Southern Connecticut State University
The purpose of this explorative qualitative methods study was to examine students' motivations and proficiency of a foreign language in a top tier higher education environment. The study investigated the factors and motivations that affect students' proficiency in a foreign language. The qualitative methods included open-ended questionnaires, focus groups and in depth interviews to explore differences and similarities in motivations that might influence the short term and long term learning goals and proficiency in a foreign language. This exploratory research study was aimed at evaluating remarks and findings for realistic implications of foreign language learning and to support the motivational needs of learners in higher education systems. Suggestions are proposed for future research and to build strong programs for achievement. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
