The State of Public Education in New Orleans: 2013 Report
Cowen Institute for Public Education Initiatives
The 2012-13 school year marks the seventh full school year since the dramatic transformation of the public school system following Hurricane Katrina. While policies and structures continue to evolve, the overarching reform mechanisms of school autonomy, parental choice, and accountability delineate the unique public education model in New Orleans. This report provides information about the current school system and its successes and challenges based on available quantitative data, media coverage, and conversations with school and district leaders. [The report was made possible through support of the Osa Foundation.]
