A Middle College High School and Its Alumni Perceptions of College and Career Readiness
Reynolds, Alfreda Ann
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Wingate University
The purpose of this mixed method design study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a middle college high school in providing the academic success of its alumni students by exploring their educational outcomes and perceptions of readiness and transition. The participants in the study were middle college high school staff who consented to participate in an interview using a questionnaire and the middle college high school alumni using an online survey. Results from this study revealed, through the implementation of the fourteen middle college high school characteristics designed by Janet Lieberman (2004), the use of using Conley's (2007) comprehensive college readiness model, and the theoretical concept of social capital and network supports (Bourdieu, 1986; Coleman, 1988; Putnam, 2000), that alumni perceptions of college and career readiness were positive. More importantly, the results have larger implications for increasing student success in the middle college high school by utilizing a multi-faceted approach to college readiness.
