Kohlbach, Corie
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, Northcentral University
The study examines available information to upward transfer students through the perspective of successful transfers. The study explores which information was most helpful in a successful transition to a four-year institution. Utilizing this knowledge to recommend policy at the four-year institution and better serve upward transfer students. The problem investigated in this study is transfer student retention and success through available information. Given an increase in transfer student populations the need to investigate efficient and effective strategies for upward transfer success is needed. The purpose of the qualitative single case study is to examine the availability of information about the transferring process to upward transfer students and how the information influenced their transfer experience. This study provides recommendations to four-year institutions for efficient and effective policy regarding the access to information for incoming transfer students. The study utilizes a qualitative single case study to exam available information and identify patterns of usage to provide effective recommendations for four-year institutions. The participants for this study are chosen for their successful transition to an institution. They are identified through Tau Sigma, the National Honor Society for Transfer Students. This organization recognizes transfer student's academic accomplishments during their first semester at the transfer institution.
