The Influence of Technology Usage on Academic Achievement (Reading and Math) from a Teacher's Perspective
White-Harris, Kimberly L.
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, The University of Southern Mississippi
The purpose of this study was to examine the perceptions of technology implementation of middle school teachers in one of the largest school districts in Alabama. This study examined if the use of technology had a positive influence on students' academic performance (reading and mathematics). Although several other studies are equivalent to this study, there are portions that are limited simply because of the study's relevance and state mandated variables. However, this study does study supported findings related to theories previously discussed in Chapters I and II, as well as in Czaja, Charness, Fisk, Hertzog, Nair, Rogers, & Sharit's, report concerning technology integration. As educational systems continue to invest tax dollars, federal funds, and grant money, into hardware and software components for students; there must be continuous research to determine effectiveness. This is necessary as more programs are implemented, as more devices emerge, and as more updates occur for the purpose of student achievement, more specifically at the middle school level, that must be solidarity in what contributes to student growth and achievement.
