The purpose of this research was to examine the relationship between early career and college interventions and college-going self-efficacy of suburban fourth and fifth grade students. This study further explored how a suburban school district addressed challenges and evaluated the perceptions of the system's strategies and implementation of a college readiness education initiatives. The data revealed results from the pre-and post-test revealed each question related directly to the understanding of college and career choices showed a significant difference in responses between the pre-and post-test of the treatment and control groups. The findings in this study supported the importance of effective instructional strategies and the value of additional instruction in the area. The end goal was supporting students to reach their highest potential and their best possible selves. With the understanding of childhood development, self-efficacy, possible selves, and effective instructional strategies, this study supported a step-in direction. This dissertation research and findings not only moved the field of education closer towards the goal of increasing college-going rates, it also raised more questions to be answered.
