Grief is widely defined and covers a plethora of losses that involves a range of sometimes easily discernible emotions. While grief can be the result of loss in general, it can be either prolonged or temporary and indiscriminate of age or gender. Children are no exception. When considering the loss of a significant individual such as a parent during childhood, then the effects must be considered with respect to the academic setting. Upon the many hallmarks of a typical school day, environments that boast support for the holistic student does more than prepare them to learn. Although grief is an experience that is unique to the individual, it does not have to be one that is faced in solitude. When considering the time a student spends in the academic settings then the school becomes a priority location fit to respond. While the priority is not to protect a student from grief, academic institutions should be a caring and supportive environment and one that fosters healing. This research investigated the process of developing a training program--P.A.C.E. Makers for teachers and counselors to address a problematic human condition. A structured approach in constructing a product as such necessitated the application of the Developmental and Research Utilization Model (Southern, 2007). The product contained was developed by integrating the core components of Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Positive Psychology to address grief responses in elementary school students--a group deserving quality care.
