Profiting in Education: Politics, Markets, and the Public Good
Crowley, Christopher B.
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, University of Wisconsin, Madison
The aim of this dissertation is to explore issues of privatization in teacher education. While other research has sought to address specific aspects of privatization affecting teacher education in the United States, the aim of this dissertation study is to conceptualize the influence and impact of neoliberalism on contemporary trends in teacher education. In other words, this work attempts to highlight the multifaceted and interrelated elements of privatization in that are often presented as, or assumed to be, unrelated or separate. However, when recognized as operating in concert, it becomes possible to understand the consequences of privatization as part of a larger socio-political and economic movement to redefine the relationships between the public good and the nature/purposes of teacher education.
