Significant attention and resources have been focused on reforming high schools to enhance graduation rates. The research literature supports the following practices: (1) For struggling students, accurate identification and intensive instructional, monitoring, and counseling support; (2) For 9th graders, transition activities, personalization, and academic support strategies; and (3) For teachers, intensive training to help them provide effective instruction and support, particularly for students showing signs of risk. Contains a bibliography. [This summary highlights key findings from a more extensive literature review prepared under contract to the Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) Evaluation & Research Dept. (Donley, 2008).]
