The purpose of this study was to understand how transmigrant women living in the US encounter the border crossing and settlement experience, as well as how these experiences, gender, spirituality, and residence in the US have impacted their identity construction and reconstruction and their language and literacy practices. In my feminist narrative inquiry, I seek to give voice to these women as they tell stories about their lives. Since 1990, transmigrant women outnumber their male counterparts. This study aimed to follow how transmigrant women "juggle attachments and alienations to and from homelands" and the US (in the words of Landzelius, 2006), how spirituality and language and literacy practices have assisted with this juggling, and how their senses of selves related to home and host countries has changed over time. It also aimed to analyze what role gender has played in shaping the lived experiences of these transmigrant women in the US.
