The Student Affairs Committee. AGB Effective Committee Series
Ellis, Shannon
Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges
College and university boards are charged with governance responsibility to ensure that students receive a high-quality education from a well-managed institution that fulfills its mission and actively pursues its vision. The student affairs committee places current and future students squarely at the center of its work and must ensure that other committees, as well as the full board, remain primarily focused on students in order to meet expectations and the charge. Part of the Effective Committee series, this booklet outlines how the committee's structure and agenda can support its underlying responsibility to serve the best interests of students. Sections include: (1) Introduction to the Student Affairs Committee; (2) Purpose of the Committee; (3) Committee Responsibilities; (4) Committee Composition; (5) Tips for Effective Student Affairs Committees; (6) Pitfalls and Lessons; and (7) Conclusion. A combined list of references and resources is provided. The appendix contains: "Sample Student Affairs Committee Charges."
