Implementing Adolescent Male Leadership Model to Enhance Behavior, Academic Success
Beliele, Laressa
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, Regent University
Schools are challenged to assist struggling youth. This study used a mixed methods design to evaluate how the school-based program Men of Distinction helps struggling male students develop leadership skills, promoting academic and social success. Quantitative data included attendance, grade point averages, the number of days in in-school restriction, the number of days suspended, and current status. Qualitative data was collected before and after participants' completion of high school. Ethnicity and socioeconomic status were examined to determine their effects. Statistical analyses indicated a significant difference in their effect upon student suspensions and in the effect of socioeconomic status upon in-school restriction. The program may be replicated, providing an effective and affordable resource to help students succeed. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
