This report attempts to set down the collective thought of 31 musicians, scholars, and teachers who met during the Seminar on Music Education, held at Yale University from June 17 through June 28, 1963, intent on improving elementary and secondary school music. The participants represented a cross-section of professional interests in music and brought different perspectives to discussions concerning music education and curriculum development. The object, as in other disciplines such as the sciences and mathematics, is to bring the subject matter and method of teaching in line with contemporary knowledge and culture.
