Transferring to a Four-Year Hispanic-Serving Institution: Latino Student Baccalaureate Attainment

Understanding how Latino students deal with the challenges that they experience at and when transitioning into four-year colleges is critical to designing programs to support transfer students and to developing interventions at the community college level that provide students with skills and support to mitigate the environmental and psychological stressors that may emerge later in the transfer process. The findings suggest that these Latino college students solved problems and sustained their commitment to degree completion by forming social support networks that helped them to cope with and negotiate the transition issues and barriers that they encountered.
