Evaluating the Impact of Colorado's Higher Education Admission Requirements: The Unintended Consequences of Increased Standards on Marginalized Populations
Schaible-Brandon, Sonia
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, University of Colorado at Denver
This research is a sequential quantitative to qualitative mixed-method study which examined the Colorado Higher Education Admission Requirements. The model and its components were studied to investigate potential adverse affects on marginalized populations Phase I replicated the path model of the current policy. The population was incoming baccalaureate students at one less selective 4-year institution (N=783) who graduated from high school in the spring of 2005. Phase II employed a phenomenological study of 3 African American men predicted by the model to fail, yet remained in good standing after 2 years. Results showed access to opportunities need to be addressed before more standards are enacted. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
