The Effects of Family Involvement Training for English Language Learners in an Elementary School
Kessler, Jonetta
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Trevecca Nazarene College
The purpose of this action research project was to investigate the effects of family involvement training on the success of ELL students, as demonstrated by their reading scores, attendance, and behavior. Additionally, the effects of family involvement training on parents' feelings of self-efficacy were measured. Volunteering families of kindergarten through fourth grade ELL students participated in Abra, which was a 26-week project. Family involvement training had a positive impact on the academic achievement, as evidenced by reading scores, and on the behavior of the treatment group. There was no significant difference in the number of absences between the two groups of students. Finally, the parents who attended at least half of the workshops reported significantly higher levels of parent self-efficacy.
