Spirituality and Counseling Supervision: Current Practices of Board Approved Supervisors
Gilliam, Timothy H.
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, Texas A&M University - Commerce
The purpose of this study was to investigate the extent to which spirituality is addressed in supervision as reported by licensed professional counselor supervisors (LPC-S), licensed professional counselors (LPC), and licensed professional counselor interns (LPC-I). This study utilized a descriptive explanatory non-experimental research design. A factor analysis yielded four factors which were used to investigate the extent to which LPC-Ss, LPCs, and LPC-Is' perceptions of addressing spirituality in supervision differed. A multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) showed statistically significant differences between LPC-Ss and LPC-Is. This study found supervisors perceived addressing spirituality statistically significantly more often than interns. The clinicians' work setting (community counseling versus school counseling) and university type (CACREP versus non CACREP) were also examined.
