The Israeli high school sociology curriculum underwent changes during the 1980s and 1990s, the main one of which was the replacing of the 1988 academic-oriented curriculum with the "new" (1998) pedagogical-didactic curriculum. An analysis of the two reveals issues regarding the content of the two curricula. The article covers nine issues framed as dilemmas or conflicts between curricular options, such as the place of theory versus research methods; universalism versus localism; general versus sectoral content; and micro versus macro in outlook. The article also lists several factors contributing to the change in Israel's high school sociology curriculum, particularly the influence of sociology research in Israel's universities; changes in educational philosophy; changes in the pupil population; and the influence of the choice of textbooks.
