Public/Private Ventures
In 2002, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation launched Children's Futures, a multiyear community-change initiative to improve the well-being of children in Trenton, New Jersey, through a broad range of activities and services, from parenting programs to efforts to improve health and childcare. This report examines programmatic achievements and outcomes for Trenton's families at the end of the initiative's first five years and addresses issues related to cost, partnership development and future sustainability. It is the companion piece to two previously released reports: "Collaboration and Community Change in the Children's Futures Initiative", which examines program implementation, participant recruitment and collaborations among Trenton's agencies; and "Children's Futures First Five Years", which summarizes the major findings from the two longer reports. Appendices include: (1) Children's Futures' Theories of Change; (2) Public-Use Birth Data, Sample and Measures, 2001 to 2004; (3) Analytic Strategies; (4) Health Data Cluster Analysis; and (5) Total Revenues of CF Partners by Year. (Contains 25 tables, 15 figures, and 42 endnotes.) [This paper was written with John Billings. For the companion reports, see the following: (1) "Children's Futures' First Five Years: Lessons and Early Outcomes of a Community Change Initiative" (ED503247); and (2) "Collaboration and Community Change in the Children's Futures Initiative" (ED507369).]
