This brief describes how Maine's introduction of its ubiquitous 1-to-1 laptop program has been beneficial to learning, if one looks in the right places. There is growing positive evidence from teachers, parents, classroom assignments and tests, and even in one case, on a standardized test, all pointing toward a similar conclusion. Students are learning more, better, and quicker with the laptops. The collection of additional evidence needs to continue in order to determine how widespread the impacts are for learning, and to determine the accumulative effects of this new level of learning on high school student performances. But these "pointer readings" are very promising, and bode well for the future achievement of Maine's middle school students. (Contains 4 tables.)
