National Early Childhood Technical Assistance Center (NECTAC)
With the passage of P.L. 94-142, the Education for All Handicapped Children Act of 1975, now the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and subsequent amendments, states and jurisdictions have made great strides in the provision of services to young children, ages 3 through 5 years, with disabilities. As of Fall 2007, America's schools were serving 710,310 preschool children with a free appropriate public education. This 16th edition of the "Profile" describes services provided under the Preschool Grants Program (Section 619 of Part B) of IDEA. The "Profile" presents current and/or historical information for all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, which are eligible to receive IDEA Part B, Section 619 funds. The information presented in this edition of the "Profile" has been gathered and updated through December 2008. This edition contains four parts: (1) Section 619 Coordinators' Profile Updates; (2) Section 619 Program Implementation Resources; (3) State Program Contacts; and (4) Section 619 Program Data from www.ideadata.org, consisting of Child Count (2007); Educational Environment (2007); Personnel (2007); and Part B and Part C State Grants.
