This Funding Note focuses on finding funding opportunities for afterschool through the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), the federal agency charged with fostering civic engagement for citizens of all ages through service and volunteering. CNCS's mission includes: (1) Providing support to volunteer organizations which provide needed services to communities across the country; (2) Promoting the volunteer sector and the role it plays in the community; (3) Creating career and educational opportunities through volunteer experiences; (4) Developing knowledge that enhances the success of volunteer programs; and (5) Cultivating a culture of citizenship. This Funding Note also provides an overview of how CNCS's programs and funding are organized and the current priorities of the agency with an emphasis on funding sources with relevance for afterschool. Also described herein are some of the major programs administered by CNCS, including Senior Corps, AmeriCorps, Learn and Serve, AmeriCorps VISTA, and AmeriCorps NCCC.
