"High Schools That Work": Supportive Networks and Services
Southern Regional Education Board (SREB)
SREB's "High Schools That Work" (HSTW) school improvement program is nationally recognized for its effectiveness in helping schools improve the achievement of all students. HSTW partners with state and district agencies to raise achievement in more than 1,200 high schools in 31 states, including all 16 HREB states. This brief brochure outlines the "High Schools That Work" framework for school improvement and the supportive services HSTW provides, including staff development and assessment services. Described herein are the following key practices that HSTW has identified that impact student achievement: high expectations, program of study, academic studies, career/technical studies, work-based learning, teachers working together, students actively engaged, guidance, extra help, and culture of continuous improvement.
