Much has been written recently about the ways many high schools are failing students, but much less has been written about the ways successful high schools manage to maintain standards of excellence for all students, pursuing high academic standards while still closing the achievement gap. This report focuses on successful high schools, highlighting the ways in which many superintendents, principals, and teachers are setting and meeting high expectations for all students. While these evidence-based practices can inform high schools nationwide, this report was developed specifically for state leaders, providing them with suggestions on how they may support initiatives that are linked with accelerated learning.
