The "Closing the Achievement Gap" series explores the Casey Foundation's education investments and presents stories, results, and lessons learned. This publication presents an in-depth look at the Foundation's investment in the District of Columbia voucher effort, summarizing results and lessons learned to-date. The document also includes Casey contributions to vouchers in Florida and Milwaukee. Foundations contributions include: (1) Adding depth to the evaluation of the DC program and enabling immediate and ongoing feedback from parents and schools; (2) Partial funding of ongoing support to participating families; (3) Funding documentation of lessons learned, helping the program demonstrate accountability and share information; and (4) Lending credibility to a controversial program that may provide quality education choices to low-income families.
