Developing Iowa's Bioscience Workforce: The Role of the Community Colleges of Iowa in Creating Skilled Workers for the Emerging Bioscience/Biotechnology Sector

This report provides an overview of the efforts of Iowa's community colleges to train workers for the emerging bioscience/biotechnology sector. The report explains the programs available and the future plans of individual community colleges designed to educate students for careers in the biosciences. Also detailed are a variety of creative partnerships that community colleges have forged with each other and four-year universities, K-12 institutions, area education agencies, and the bioscience industry. Contents include: (1) Overview; (2) Bioscience/Biotechnology Focus Groups; (3) Outcomes of Focus Groups; (4) Bioscience and Biotechnology Community College Incentive Grants; (5) Summary of Each Community College's Bioscience-Related Programs and Efforts; and (6) Community College Faculty Involved in Bioscience Education.
