Networked Nation: Broadband in America, 2007
National Telecommunications and Information Administration
This report highlights the dramatic growth of broadband in the United States. The report shows that the Administration's technology, regulatory and fiscal policies have stimulated innovation and competition, and encouraged investment in the U.S. broadband market contributing to significantly increased accessibility of broadband services. The report examines the comprehensive package of technology, regulatory, and fiscal polices implemented by the Administration to lower barriers to investment and create an environment in which broadband innovation and competition can flourish. It examines the concerted, pro-market policies that the Administration has implemented to remove regulatory obstacles, foster economic incentives, and encourage investment in the development and deployment of broadband technologies. It also outlines steps the Administration has taken to help jump-start market forces by providing seed-funding to advance broadband deployment in underserved and rural areas. Finally, the report documents the statistical evidence that demonstrates the burgeoning competitive broadband marketplace that has emerged in the United States over the last several years and the commensurate increases in accessibility and affordability that America consumers enjoy as a result. (Contains 13 charts, 5 maps, 8 tables, and 239 endnotes.)
