Though teen pregnancy rates in the United States have dropped within the past decade, the teen birth rate in the US is still higher than any other developed nation. A recent study has found that youth who do not spend time in extracurricular activities after school are 37% more likely to become teen parents than are youth who spend time in afterschool programs, and that the most common time for youth to have sexual intercourse is in the hours between 3 pm. and 6 pm. Afterschool programs help prevent teen pregnancy by encouraging good decision-making and providing youth health education and positive role models in a supervised setting after school.
