Development of Information Literacy through School Libraries in South-East Asian Countries (IFAP Project 461RAS5027)
UNESCO Bangkok
In 2003, the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) and UNESCO co-organized a Regional Workshop on School Library Services in South East Asia. It was followed by a project to examine the current state of information literacy education and recommend action plans to increase school libraries' involvement in the development of information literacy. The project spent six months on planning in the second half of 2004, conducted national surveys from January to July 2005 and a post survey workshop during August-December 2005. Findings from the survey and post survey workshop are summarized including many information literacy topics such as awareness and training, visioning, training for teachers and librarians, implementation, leadership, assessment and evaluation, support systems and school library development. Recommendations for implementation of information literacy through school libraries are provided. [This research was made possible through financial support from UNESCO, IFLA and the Japan Foundation Bangkok.]
