Community mapping is a tool grounded in a school-to-careers research base that can aid educators' efforts in matching students' transition needs with community assets. Community mapping (geographical or abstract) is a contextualized teaching and learning (CTL) approach that can acquaint teachers with the target community's culture, resources, transition assets, and needs. This brief presents a tool for educators to help match student transition needs with community assets, and for students to explore organizations and career opportunities in their community. It describes the research base for community mapping and provides an outline of the roles, responsibilities, and materials involved in the community mapping process. It also provides examples of and further resources for engaging in community resource mapping. (Contains 1 table.)
